What To Do

The town of Shaftesbury is about a mile and a half away. It is an ancient market town with a famous view, which is without doubt, one of the best views in Dorset - the cobbled street of Gold Hill, known to millions as the 'Hovis' hill from the TV adverts in the 1980s. The origin of the name Gold Hill is not certain but one theory is that it comes from 'Gild Hall' as today's Town Hall stands at the crest of the hill.

There is Shaftesbury Abbey and Shaftesbury Arts Centre, where there are regular, varied and lively year-round programme of amateur and professional plays, films, art, photography and craft exhibitions, workshops, and training courses.

Town centre maps are provided for you in the holiday-let. Late opening food stores include Ivy Cross Stores and Tesco and Co-op, which are open until 10pm most evenings.
